I agree with Kyle’s analysis here about the author of this article taking the story out of context. True, God in bringing about judgment is on the “side” of colonial power, we see this repeated in the prophetic books of Jeremiah and Isaiah. However, in an analysis of a text a person has to give regard to the motivation of a person that leads them to take certain actions. In this case, God was the one bringing an action about. Why? Was it because God is a colonizer? No, but rather that judgment was coming on an unfaithful Israel. In writing about the Bible it is hard to bring about a proper analysis without incorporating the spiritual aspect into it.
